HAHNVILLE — Two Hahnville High School seniors were recipients of scholarship awards highlighting their efforts in student leadership and community service.

Ms. Mar’Kiya Francis was named the recipient of the 2023 HHS Class of 1982 Service Recognition Scholarship Tuesday night, April 27, during Hahnville High School’s Senior Awards Program in the school’s auditorium.

The Hahnville High School Graduating Class of 1982 Scholarship was created to recognize the spirit of “giving back to the community through participating in school organizations.” The $500 scholarship is awarded to the student who embodies this spirit wholeheartedly.

Mar’Kiya and her classmates participate in Café Days at the Satellite Center. They host a variety of events, such as the masquerade ball, act as service people for public events, and serve food for the meetings at the Satellite Center. They also serve at events like Jazz Fest and Alligator Festival.

Mar’Kiya and other members of the Beta Club and National Honor Society work with events that need service people as well, such as events at Mimosa Park Elementary School. Mar’Kiya’s love for people and natural ability to socialize allows her to connect with the children. It gives her happiness to see them so excited.

Mar’Kiya has been a member and team captain of the Killona Dancing Dolls. She finds joy in being able to perform and teaching the younger girls. The best part for Mar’Kiya is seeing how they enjoy it and how much fun they have.

Mar’Kiya’s advice to others is: “Success won’t find you unless you find success in yourself.”

Mr. Cooper Landeche was named the recipient of the 2023 Hilcorp Future Leaders of America Scholarship during the Senior Awards Program.

The $10,000 scholarship was created to recognize the outstanding leadership qualities of a graduating high school senior. Mr. Cooper Landeche displays many extraordinary leadership qualities.

Cooper has been lucky enough to serve as a leader during his junior and senior years in the Hahnville High School Band. For the past two years, he has been Saxophone Section Leader. This year, he was selected as Band President and will continue to lead the band until he graduates.

Mr. Landeche was also selected as Beta Club president this year. He has continued to offer many service opportunities alongside members in the National Honors Society, Beta Club and Spanish Honor Society.

Mr. Landeche also serves as a leader in his church community as the lead organist every Sunday. During the summer, he also participates in monthly Second Harvest Food Bank distribution.

Mr. Cooper Landeche’s advice to others: “Putting value in yourself and being aware of certain things in your organization and community is one of the most valuable skills you can have as a leader.”
