Making sure there is power where needed

My daughter Elise and her husband David designed the plan for their new home, trying to make every detail fit their lifestyle and family’s needs. Elise asked me to walk through the house with her after the electrical outlets had been placed. She wanted to be sure they were adequate for their house to run efficiently.

The outlets were many and seemed ample until we walked through a typical day for Elise.

“Where will your Roomba vacuum go?” I asked.

We searched for the perfect spot and Elise marked an X where she wanted the electrician to install another outlet for power.

“Where will you cook?”

“The stovetop will be here,” Elise said.

“No, where will the Crockpot go?” We laughed and marked a counter height spot for another outlet.

When I saw an outlet high on the wall I asked, “What’s that for?”

“Television,” she said.

“Genius!” I said.

Elise and David will have access to power exactly where power is needed.

I wonder if that’s what God does. Is that why He’s placed His children in classrooms and boardrooms, athletics and medicine, entertainment and government? Is that why you’re in the family, profession, or neighborhood you’re in? Is it because God wanted an outlet for His power in the community of people you’re surrounded by?

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth,” Acts 1:8.

Wherever He’s placed you, receive His power to be a witness, to testify of His love, grace and mercy.
