As the District Championship was up for grabs, the Lady Wildcats took the court with one thing on their minds: solidify themselves as District Champs. And that’s just what they did when they defeated the Hahnville High School Lady Tigers last Tuesday night. The Tigers and the Wildcats played before a packed gym as both teams collided for the top position.

When Coach James was asked about the game she had this to say: “It’s definitely always intense when you’re talking about Hahnville and Destrehan. I think that the number one thing was that we knew we wanted to defend the home court.”

The Lady Wildcats followed up with a win against H.L. Bourgeois on Friday with the final score of 64-40.

At press time, the 18-8 Lady Cats are ranked #11 on GeauxPreps power rankings and have two  games left where they will play Terrebone and Riverside Academy.

The boy’s team would follow suit as well as they took on the Tigers right after the girls. The Wildcats set out with a mission to beat the Tigers. This was evidently clear as they took the floor and started their barrage of shots and took an early lead. However, the Tigers put up a hard fight to catch up with them, and the game was close throughout. The Wildcats began to take big lead late in the second quarter and led the game going to the half. They came out with a vengeance going into the third which made the Tigers play even harder to catch and keep up.  The Wildcats never let down from the three pointers and kept the Tigers scrambling to stay with them.  But the Wildcats pulled off the win over the Tigers. Coach Broadway had some good things to say about how he felt about the game. “I thought with a rivalry game, you know emotions are high. So I told my team first they had to calm down. Plus we learned some things from the last game with turnovers and limiting those. The plan was basically to try to contain Mr. (Cameron) Lumar, you know. Mr. Lumar is a hell of a ball player so that was our biggest thing. And to get some of these other guys who haven’t been on the floor. I thought it was a very competitive game.”

As of press time the boys have six more games. Teams include Central Lafourche and Franklin Parish on Feb 7 and a home game on February 10 against Terrebonne. The boys will be traveling on February 13 and 14, playing against Doyle and Destrehan, respectively. The regular season ends at home on February 17 against Bonnabel.
