RESERVE — The Riverside girls soccer team handily defeated Lee Magnet Saturday afternoon, 10-0, led by four Caitlin Roussel goals.

The Rebels needed a victory after a three-game losing skid that saw the Rebels score just two total goals, and although Lee represented a non-district foe, opening things up offensively should provide a mental boost for the Rebels, says coach Mert Deger.

“We certainly didn’t expect to lose three in a row, so this was a much needed win for us,” Deger said. “We’ve had a couple of injuries and in this game, we wanted to set a tone for ourselves early.

“I think we had something of a mental block (in the previous three games) offensively. The teams we were facing had very strong defenses, so this provided a lift, and we stopped a losing streak.”

Taylor Aubert and Maddie Duhon  each scored two goals. Brandi Perrin and MacKenzie Saucier-Meyer each scored one.

The Rebels will face non-district rival Lutcher Friday night before a looming rematch with district foe Parkview. Parkview defeated Riverside 1-0 last week.

Lutcher, Deger said, will provide a stiff test before that matchup.

“That’s a really solid test for us,” he said. “We need to string together a few wins and finish our season strong. We want to go into the postseason with the highest  seed possible.”
