Golden Meadow – On November 13, 2022, shortly before 9:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C was notified of a two-vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 1 (Leeville Toll Bridge). The crash claimed the lives of 33-year-old Santiago Cascillo of Texas and 51-year-old Chad St. Pierre of Grand Isle.
The preliminary investigation revealed Cascillo, who was driving a 2014 Dodge Durango, was traveling south on LA Hwy 1 at a high rate of speed. At the same time, St. Pierre was traveling north on LA Hwy 1 in a 2019 Toyota CHR. For reasons still under investigation, Cascillo crossed the center line and struck the Toyota.
Both Cascillo and St. Pierre were restrained at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries, and died at the scene.
A toxicology sample was collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Speeding can increase your chances of being severely injured or killed in a crash, increase your chances of losing control, and reduce your ability to react to or avoid a roadway hazard.
Troop C has investigated 44 fatal crashes resulting in 49 deaths in 2022.
