3 Edgard men arrested for catalytic converter theft

On August 24, 2022, at 1:15 AM, witnesses were leaving a business establishment in the 2400 block of Williams Boulevard when they observed subjects in the parking lot of a closed auto dealership. The witnesses contacted the police and reported what they observed.
Officers quickly responded to the business on Williams Boulevard, Kenner. Three men were observed entering a vehicle and fleeing northbound on Williams Boulevard. The suspects quickly ended the pursuit in the 2700 block of Williams Boulevard after being overwhelmed by a heavy police presence.
Three suspects were detained. Officers observed strewn about inside the vehicle two saws commonly used to remove catalytic converters, 48 removable saw blades and two catalytic converters. Officers relocated to the business the suspects fled from and found a vehicle in which two of its catalytic converters had been removed.
Montel Lewis, 20, of Edgard, Mason Lewis, 22, of Edgard and Willard George, 23, of Edgard, were all arrested and charged with felony crimes including a recently enacted law, RS 14:67.12, which pertains specifically to the theft of catalytic converters.
The new law was introduced by Senator Kirk Talbot, signed by the Governor and went into effect on August 1, 2022.

Willard George was charged with violation of RS 14:67.12 Theft of a Catalytic Converter (value $2400), RS14:108 Resisting Arrest, RS14:95.A3 Possession of Burglar Tools and RS40:966 Possession of Marijuana.
