TANGIPAHOA PARISH – Following a joint effort of the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM), the Clark County District Attorney’s Office in Nevada, and the Hammond Police Department, a Bogalusa man is not only in custody for allegations of writing thousands of dollars in bad checks but is also facing hundreds of child pornography charges.
James Mifflin, Jr., 48, was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on August 8 as a fugitive out of Clark County, Nevada. Days later, he was additionally booked on 286 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. His bond was set at $42.75 million.
Back in April, the Clark County District Attorney’s office contacted the SFM to assist with locating Mifflin who was wanted by their office for a case involving allegations that he wrote more than $3,500 in bad checks. The SFM’s assistance centered around a provisional security license issued to Mifflin for his job with a Hammond-based security firm.
SFM deputies coordinated with the firm and Hammond Police to take Mifflin into custody on the fugitive warrant out of Nevada. Once arrested, Mifflin’s work-issued possessions, including a cell phone, were returned to the firm he had been working for. Upon review of the cellphone, the firm re-contacted Hammond Police to report the discovery of hundreds of illegal images. Following a swift investigation, Mifflin was booked in the pornography case.
The SFM is proud of its partnership in and contribution to this case and wants to highlight the value of its licensing process for the life safety and property protection industry, which includes conducting background checks that are accessible nationwide, as an integral part of the successful outcome of this case.
