LAPLACE — Canon’s Corner, a new children’s boutique offering a wide range of styles for boys and girls, is celebrating its grand opening from noon to 6 p.m. August 6-7 at 1617 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace.
The store will feature streetwear, biker jeans, designer items, everyday wear and a host of accessories including purses, earrings, bracelets, hats, shoes, socks, belts, headbands and sunglasses.
Canon’s Corner currently has inventory ranging from baby clothing up to a children’s size 14 but focuses mostly on 18-24 months to size 8. According to owner Crashaun Long, the sizes offered at the store will be tailored to meet the needs of the community.
The inspiration behind the business is Long’s 3-year-old son, Canon.
“When I had my son, I figured I wanted to play dress up with him a bit,” Long said. “Everybody was asking where I buy his clothes because they liked the way he was dressed.”
Long puts a lot of research into the clothing she selects for the Canon’s Corner brand to ensure high quality, something she feels was lacking in traditional boys clothing options.
Canon’s Corner began with a Black Friday pop-up outside of The Red Carpet Boutique in 2021. At the time, she was only offering boys’ clothing. Her collection expanded to include girls’ items and a host of accessories as she attended pop-up shops near and far, from vendor spaces localized in St. John Parish to events in Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia.
“I got tired of hauling the clothes everywhere with me, so I decided to open up a store,” Long said. “I think it will be a big asset to the community, not only in St. John Parish but also in neighboring parishes, because no one has clothing stores in this area. There’s nowhere to shop that’s very local except Walmart unless you go toward Metairie or Tanger in Gonzales.”
Long often tells people that Canon’s Corner isn’t her business; it’s her son’s brand, and all of the blood, sweat and tears that go into operating a clothing store are a labor of love to better his future.
Canon proudly models the clothing for his business. At only 3 years old, he’s excitedly telling everyone that he has a job – and he’s been attempting to hire people, too.
Business hours will be noon to 5 p.m. for the first week of operation and are subject to change.
The Canon’s Corner website, https://www.canonscorner.com, will be live following this weekend’s grand opening event. The storefront can also be reached at 985-441-9799.
Pick-up orders will still be available at the store only.
