Acadia Parish – At 8:00 a.m. on July 24, 2022, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were notified of a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 13 north of Louisiana Highway 370 in Acadia Parish. The crash took the life of 62-year-old James Anthony Cormier of Crowley.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Cormier was driving north on LA 13 in a 2018 Freightliner 18-wheeler. For reasons still under investigation, Cormier failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway to the right. Upon doing so, the 18-wheeler struck a utility pole and overturned.
Troopers determined Cormier was restrained at the time of the crash. Despite restraint use, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. A standard toxicology sample was obtained for analysis and this crash remains under investigation.
Troop I has investigated 27 fatal crashes resulting in 31 deaths in 2022.
