Day of the Dead rises at St. John library event

LAPLACE — The St. John Parish Library is hosting an after-hours program, which will have a “Day of the Dead,” theme.

Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday observed throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures.

The holiday focuses on joyful gatherings of family and friends to remember those who have died. There will be many fun events at this program, including making and painting paper mache sugar skulls, temporary tattoos and taking photos with colorful masks. The “Day of the Dead” or “Dia De Los Muertos” program is aimed for teens and tweens ages 12-17 and pre-registering is required.

Please note the age group for the program will be with no exceptions. The event is limited to 20 participants. The program is scheduled for 9 to 10:45 p.m. Nov. 3 at St. John the Baptist Parish Library in LaPlace.
