In a move that surprised even me, I joined a Cross Fit gym. I’m shocked that I enjoy the challenge of burpees, pushups and running, but my favorite activity is weightlifting. It’s always a good day for me when I add more weight to those barbells. At the gym, the stronger you are, the more weight you can lift, and the longer you can carry that weight.
It’s the exact opposite of how the rest of my day goes – when I try to drop weights. Spiritually speaking, I believe our strength is determined by how quickly we drop weights.
What are spiritual weights? They can be sins, worries, fears, burdens, or anything that distracts us from the presence of God. We aren’t supposed to carry these weights around. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Ready for a little exercise? Let’s flex our spiritual muscles and drop some weights. Lay aside the sins that are blocking your blessings. Take the burden of finances off your back and trust Jesus. Stop worrying and start praising God for His great and precious promises. Continue to pray with faith and thanksgiving to the God Who cannot fail.
