ST. AMANT – NyKosha Bethancourt has experienced first-hand the emotional roller coaster of devastating grief when her young daughter lost her life in a tragic car accident. She immediately sought counseling to help her regain her sense of equilibrium. It was only through compassionate support and connecting with others who were also grieving did she begin to understand that she was not alone.
Having gained a new perspective on grief and as a person of faith, she felt that God was gently encouraging her to turn her pain into a purpose. She founded Anchored 2 Angels Foundation to support those who are bereaved – especially those who have lost a child.
In Bethancourt’s words, “The loss of a child is one of the most traumatic events parents and family members can experience. They have not only lost someone they deeply cherished, but they have also lost years of future shared moments.’
Anchored 2 Angels Foundation depends on the generosity of donors to help develop programs focused on loss and healthy grieving. Some of the existing programs currently in place include virtual support groups with learning guides focused on loss and healthy grieving, three annual retreats for individuals and families and a range of age-appropriate resources for grieving children.
The Foundation welcomes the public to attend its first Inaugural Foundation Funding Gala on Friday, 7 May 2022 at The Venue, 13475 LA-431, St. Amant, LA 70774, beginning at 7 p.m. A $30 attendee donation is requested.
Per Bethancourt, “Our inaugural fundraising event is the Foundation’s public debut. It includes a catered dinner, live entertainment, a silent and visual auction, and a welcoming address. It will officially launch our mission to provide compassionate grief support and help bring the subject of death and loss out from the shadows so that it can be shared and, in a sense, normalized.”
