LAPLACE — As the November 29 deadline to apply for assistance quickly approaches, spokesperson Gerard Hammink shared that FEMA has approved more than 546,000 applications from households in 25 parishes impacted by Hurricane Ida.

FEMA has approved individual assistance grants totaling more than $976 million for households statewide.

There have been 14,458 applications approved from St. John the Baptist Parish. More than $45 million has been approved for St. John Parish households, along with more than $13.9 million in repair assistance, more than $12.6 million in temporary rental assistance and more than $17.4 million in assistance for other needs.

According to Hammink, individuals from 4,627 households are checked into hotel rooms paid for directly by FEMA, and 552 of those households are from St. John Parish. Households receiving rental assistance may be using that money to stay in a hotel, or for other temporary housing.

As a reminder, several Disaster Recovery Centers remain open in the area (see list below). Applicants can visit any Disaster Recovery Center and they can find a full list at this website DRC Locator (fema.gov)

The FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers at the Edgard Library parking lot (2979 LA-18 in Edgard) and Convent Community Center (5775 Highway 44 in Convent) will close permanently at 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 13.
