MORGAN CITY — Cooler temperatures and high pressure often spell trouble for fishermen in Louisiana, but the fall weather did not deter a talented fishing team from St. John the Baptist Parish.
West St. John High School’s fishing duo of Shamar Pierre and Devrin Harper placed third in the Louisiana Youth B.A.S.S. Nation Eastern Qualifier No. 1, presented by Spillway Sportsman on October 30 at Doiron’s Landing, Morgan City.
Pierre and Harper caught a five-fish limit for 15.23 pounds and had a 4.64 big bass to top off their bag, according to Louisiana High School Bass Fishing organizers.
Nearly 200 youth fishing teams participated in Saturday’s Eastern Qualifier. A total of 527 bass were caught for a combined weight of 946.43 pounds.
The placement qualifies the West St. John Fishing Team for the 2022 Louisiana BASS Nation High School State Championship.
