LAPLACE — A LaPlace man set to begin a year-long jail sentence is now facing additional charges and possibly more jail time after authorities said he tried to sneak drugs into prison.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office officials said Olonzo Narcisse, 28, of Joe Parquet Circle turned himself in to the Sherman Walker Correctional Center Nov. 11 to begin a one-year Department of Corrections sentence for aggravated flight from an officer.

During the booking process, Sheriff Mike Tregre said deputies confiscated Narcisse’s shoes, and during a subsequent search, discovered drugs.

Tregre said a search like the one done on Narcisse is standard practice by detectives during the booking process.

“People try all sorts of things,” Tregre said of new inmates trying to sneak in items. “We caught him and others in the past.”

During a search of his shoes, “deputies recovered approximately 1.05 ounces synthetic marijuana, 12 Tylenol with Codeine pills and rolling papers from under the inner sole of the shoes,” authorities said in a press release.

Deputies booked Narcisse with introduction of contraband into a penal institution, possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS and possession with intent to distribute schedule III CDS.

Tregre said depending on the outcome of the prosecution of the drug charges, Narcisse may have additional jail time added to his sentence.
