LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish and surrounding communities will collectively receive $1 million in contributions from Marathon Petroleum Corp. and its foundation to assist with relief and recovery from Hurricane Ida.

Specifically, St. John the Baptist Parish will receive a donation of $250,000 as part of the larger $1 million contribution from MPC to charitable organizations and municipalities that serve and support Garyville and nearby communities, where MPC operates a 578,000 barrel-per-day refinery, several fuel terminals and other infrastructure. MPC will also donate up to an additional $50,000 to local organizations to match donations from its employees.

“Hurricane Ida has dealt a major blow to Louisiana; however, our people are resilient and we will emerge ever stronger,” said Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards. “We have a long road to recovery and every bit of funding and assistance counts, and we are grateful for the significant contribution of $1,000,000 from Marathon, which is going directly to some of our hardest hit communities where the needs are most acute. Marathon has over 1,000 employees at its Garyville refinery and nearby sites, many of whom were also impacted by this storm – we will get through this together and again, we are thankful for the partnership.”

In addition to St. John the Baptist Parish, the following local organizations will receive donations as part of MPC’s contribution to our community:

· American Red Cross of Louisiana

· New Wine Development Inc.

· St. John United Way

· Ascension Parish

· St. James Parish
