Arrest made for a 2020 St. James Parish shooting

An arrest has been made for the August 3, 2020 murder of Jabarie Lyndez Lewis. The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged Tevonne Shorty (DOB 12/24/1995) with second degree murder on April 28, 2021. Tevonne Shorty is currently being held at the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office. Bond in the amount of $300,000 has been set by the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau. This is still an active investigation and anyone having information should contact New Orleans Crime Stoppers at 1-877-903-STOP.

On August 3, 2020 around 12:07 am the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of gunshots being fired on Louisiana Ave. in Lutcher, LA. Deputies responding to the call discovered a 17 year old male, who had been shot multiple times, lying on the front porch of the residence located at 2400 Louisiana Ave. Acadian Ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The victim has been identified as Jabarie Lyndez Lewis (17 years old from Lutcher, LA). Sheriff’s Office detectives are continuing their investigation of the homicide.
