GRAMERCY — The inaugural Breaking Down Walls Fishing Extravaganza for the River Parishes will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at St. James Boat Club.

Organizers promise this is not a regular fishing rodeo because Trinity Outdoors Disabled Adventures, Spina Bifida of Greater New Orleans, The Movement, The Great Outdoors Fan Club and many local churches are on a mission to share encouraging words through the outdoors, allowing all to come together as a community.

Organizers are dedicated to give encouragement, have fun and teach anyone regardless of age, race, social status, ability or disability that through the beauty of the outdoors many can build relationships and form lasting memories for years to come.

Those interested in helping or providing sponsorship can contact Brandon Scott at 225-206-1488 or Maria Hotard Stelly at 985-210-9153.

Many fun activities are planned for all ages. Participants will be educated and about fishing and casting techniques. There will be demonstrations with famous dogs that recently starred in movies, face painting, music, food and fun.

Prizes will be awarded in each fishing category (0-18+) as well as participation certificates.

All participants, volunteers and personal care attendants must sign a liability waiver. Participants must also have a parent or guardian present to participate.

Participants that do not know how to swim must bring a life jacket to wear when they are by the water. A participant’s responsibilities include calling to preregister.
