The condition of our country today is similar to what our founding fathers experienced. The colonies had problems ruling themselves and formed a Constitutional Convention to form a “more perfect union.” Because of the diversion of the group, it looked like nothing would be accomplished.
During the controversial discussions, an aged Benjamin Franklin rose from his seat to ask, “In this situation of this assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illumine our understanding?”
As one of the greatest nations God ever created, we are experiencing some of the same issues as our founding fathers. We are divided and expecting one of the political parties to find solutions to our many problems. I think it would be wise to take the advice of our first president, George Washington. “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.”
Evidently, Franklin was right. It isn’t our government but our God who rules in the affairs of men. Let’s pray for our leaders, for without God’s wisdom, none of them has answers in times like these.
