I assume most people are like me and are concerned about the direction our once-great country is headed. Without faith and hope that God is in control, many people just give up, quit living and only exist, with no hope for the future.
On the other hand, Christians need to concentrate on Romans 15:13 – “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Recently, I read the following which the late Rev. Billy Graham said after the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001:
In times like these, we realize how weak and inadequate we are, and our greatest need is to turn in repentance and faith to the God of all mercy and the Father of all comfort. If ever there was a time for us to turn to God and pray as a nation, it is now, that this evil will spread no further. It is also a time for us to remember the words of the psalmist: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
We come together to affirm our conviction that God cares about us, whatever our ethnic, religious, or political background may be. The Bible says that He is the “God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles…”
But today, we especially need to come together to confess our need of God. We’ve always needed God from the beginning of this nation, but today we need Him especially. We’re facing a new kind of enemy. We’re involved in a new kind of warfare, and we need the help of the Spirit of God. The Bible’s words are our hope: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble….”
I hope his words will ring loud and clear and give us a peace that only God can give.
