St. John the Baptist Parish – Parish President Hotard in coordination with the Regional Planning Commission (RPC) announces much-needed study for the widening of LA 3127 in St. John Parish.
The study, funded by the Regional Planning Commission and estimated for completion in eight months, will:
- Plan for the widening of LA 3127 and analyze updated construction costs.
- Assess opportunities for green infrastructure, water management and resilience to preserve the roadway and environment around it.
- Assess how the roadway, currently a designated hurricane evacuation route, can be improved to enhance the emergency evacuation of the New Orleans area, particularly the West Bank.
- Assess LA 3127 as a freight corridor that would support adjacent industrial development along the Mississippi River.
The study will cost approximately $70,000 and is funded through RPC.
“I am pleased to announce the first step of a project that has seen significant delays but is critical to St. John the Baptist Parish and surrounding areas,” said President Hotard. “Once complete, we will be better postured to not only enhance an important evacuation route and economic thoroughfare but also improve safety for those who travel LA 3127 daily.”
