LAPLACE — LaChandra Morris and Kila Marbley hope to spread Thanksgiving goodwill and ease the hearts of those who are going through difficult times, even if only for a day.
The sisters are inviting the community to a Thanksgiving meal at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 26 at 1929 W. Airline Highway Ste. 2021. Complimentary meals will be served inside Skye the Event Space Grand Venue, the newest 321 Events venue that offers 18,000 square feet of space and an upscale ambiance.
Morris said she and Marbley anticipate serving nearly 300 people on Thanksgiving Day. Meals will be served until all the food is gone, and attendees can also look forward to prizes, giveaways from local businesses and more.
“Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for everything we have – to give back and to celebrate our family, friends, health and happiness. Particularly, with the onslaught of COVID-19, my sister Kila and I noticed the impact communities face financially, physically and emotionally and wanted to step in,” Morris said. “Her Cash App Blessings+ Facebook group was introduced during the pandemic, and she now has 1,900 members. Each day, she uses her platform to help members in need – from covering bills, groceries, medicine, clothing expenses and more. Together, we thought it’d be a blessing to come together to host this Thanksgiving event because we wanted to ensure the Thanksgiving spirit reached as many folks as we could and hopefully ease their worries – even for just a day.”
Morris hopes the venue can become a safe haven for those in the community who do not have a place to go on Thanksgiving Day.
Though volunteers are not needed at this time, organizers are always accepting donations. To share food items, takeaways or other donations, please contact LaChandra Morris at m321events2gmail.com/504-559-2946 or Kila Marbley at 504-510-7943.
Marbley and Morris are extremely humbled and blessed to be in a position to give back this Thanksgiving and are committed to making a change in their communities day by day. They look forward to many more events to come.
Both 321 Events and the CashApp Blessings+ Facebook group have a purpose driven by giving. 321 Events lives by the motto, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
Morris has always had an eye and passion for design. 321 Events came into fruition as a result of that passion.
“As a full service event planning company, creating spaces that reflect our customers’ personal style is what we know and love,” Morris said. “It brings joy to our hearts creating an atmosphere that clients will love and cherish for years to come.”
Under the 321 Events umbrella, Skye the Event Space Grand Venue has 18,000 square feet of space to comfortable accommodate up to 400 guests for corporate events, birthday celebrations and more. The venue is also equipped with a dedicated bridal suite to make a bride’s wedding day even more special.
The space was most recently open to the community as the Buttons and Bows Children’s Playground, which closed in 2019. The venue was vacant prior to 321 Events securing the space, and it took nearly a year to complete renovations and transform it into an upscale environment.
The restrooms were redesigned from the ground up, including new plumbing, appliances and flooring. All venue floors were renewed to their original state before color blocking was done to distinguish the designated dance area from the seating areas. A new bridal suite and prep kitchen areas were implemented. Meanwhile, all walls were repainted to a dark brown finish and adorned with cognac, sequin drapes for a formal effect.
Morris said she is happy to work with each client individually to bring his or her vision to life with safety in mind.
“In the wake of COVID-19, our venue serves as the perfect backdrop for fun, safe and socially-distant events,” Morris said.
