Wednesday update: St. John Parish reports 808 COVID-19 cases

LAPLACE — There were 808 of reported COVID-19 cases and 77 deaths in St. John the Baptist Parish on Wednesday, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. This marks an increase of 4 additional cases and an increase of 1 death since Tuesday’s report.

St. Charles Parish has 600 reported cases and 43 deaths, while St. James has 268 reported cases and 22 deaths. 

Statewide, there are 32,662 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across all 64 parishes. This marks an increase of 612 cases since yesterday’s report. 

There were 2,315 deaths statewide as of Tuesday, which was an increase of 34 since Tuesday’s report. The first death in the state was reported on March 14. 

According to the Louisiana Department of Health, there are 1,194 COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the state. Of these patients, 147 are on ventilators. 

The state is now reporting that 22,608 people who have tested positive are presumed to have recovered as of May 10.

Governor John Bel Edwards announced this week that effective May 15, the Stay at Home Order will be lifted and Louisiana will enter phase one reopening.
Vulnerable individuals should still stay at home as much as possible and not gather.
Under Phase One:
– Restaurants allowed to offer dine-in services but must limit indoor table service to 25% of their capacity.
-Churches, gyms, movie theaters and places of worship can open with 25% capacity.

-Barber shops, nail salons, hair salons and bars that offer food service, casinos and video poker, museums, zoos and aquariums can operate at a 25 percent of their normal capacity.

St. John curfew will be lifted Friday.

St. John Sheriff, Mike Tregre, announced the overnight curfew put into place April 1 in St. John the Baptist Parish will expire as the parish moves to Phase One under the White House COVID-19 guidance on Friday, May 15.  This removes the Stay at Home order for Louisianans and allows additional businesses to open under strict occupancy, protection and social distancing guidelines.
