Police investigate two shootings in Cambridge

St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating two shootings that occurred Monday night in Cambridge subdivision.
At about 8:30 p.m. on  March 16, officers responded to the 1300 block of Cambridge Drive in LaPlace in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the 19-year-old male victim who had been shot in the right hip. Emergency medical services arrived on scene and rendered aid to the victim then transported him to a New Orleans hospital where he was treated and released. Through investigation, officers learned the victim was sitting in a vehicle in the driveway of a residence where he was approached by an unknown male who shot him. A motive is unknown at this time.
Later in the evening, about 11 p.m., deputies responded to the 2400 block of Virginian Colony Drive in LaPlace in reference to gunshots heard in the area. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 37-year-old female victim with a gunshot wound to the right hand. Through investigation, officers learned the victim was driving home, traveling on English Colony Drive when she observed two unknown males standing at the corner of English Colony and Montecello Court who suddenly began shooting at her. She fled the scene and stopped at a residence on Virginian Colony Drive to call police. Emergency medical services arrived and rendered aid to the victim then transferred her to an area hospital where she was treated and released.
At this time, it is unknown if the two shootings are connected.
