In January, I’m always reminded of some of the most important events that took place in my life during that month.
On Jan. 20, 1953, I enlisted in the Navy and began a four-year term of service.
On Jan. 11, 1964, I was elected to serve St. John Parish as their state representative. I really was not prepared for the responsibility that the job required, but I have always been grateful for the honor.
One of the most important decisions I made was on Jan. 25, 1974 when I admitted I had a serious drinking problem and sought help through a 12-step program for alcoholics.
On Jan. 25th this year, I will celebrate 46 years of sobriety. I am thankful to God, a program of recovery, and a faithful and forgiving wife.
Believing that God has a purpose for everyone’s life, everything in my life happened for a reason. The storms in my life were self-inflicted and allowed by God to teach me valuable lessons. They made me repent, equipped me for His service in Get High on Life, and reminded me that only God is in control.
When praying, I often thank God for the storms He allowed me to have. I assure Him that I was miserable and didn’t enjoy them, but I thank Him for seeing me through everything.
