WSJ excels at recent summer camp

EDGARD — West St. John High School’s Majorettes and Flag Team left a recent camp with arms full of awards and numerous invitations for special performances.
During the Marching Auxiliaries Summer Camp July 1-3, the students learned five routines, along with various techniques and tricks. The camp closed with a performance by each team.
After the performance, the squads were presented with awards.
Green Rising Star ribbons were given to girls who gave a great effort. Majorettes receiving the award were Amyri Lopez, Glasia Walker, Tai’Jhun Louper, Kiara Shavers, Amyia Lumar and Alaney Favorite.
Flag Team members awarded green ribbons were Jaylan Pierece, Zoe Bryant, Ke’Ira Frank, Zian Bryant, Toni Bailey, Kheylaysia Tillman, Jalaya Gros and Ladaja Populis.
Members awarded the white All-Star Performance ribbons are invited to perform at the Capital One Bowl, at Disney and in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Majorettes receiving a white ribbon were Glasia Walker, Tai’Jhun Louper, Amyia Lumar and Alaney Favorite.
Flag Team members receiving a white ribbon were Jaylan Pierce, Zoe Bryant, Ke’Ira Frank, Zian Bryant and Jalaya Gros.
Honor Roll, given to girls who went above and beyond, went to Glasia Walker, Jaylan Pierce, Zoe Bryant, Zian Bryant, Tai’Jhun Louper, Amyia Lumar and Alaney Favorite.
The WSJH Flag Team received a superior award for its final performance, while the Majorettes received a Grand Champion award.
West St. John High’s Flag Team also received a 110 percent award for tremendous effort each and every day.
Sponsors Deanna Edenfield and Chantel Walker and chaperones Roma Lumar and Hope Carter also attended the camp.
