Dibartolo arrested in shooting investigation

EDGARD — Derrel Talan Dibartolo, 31, of Killona was arrested Monday, Jan. 6 in connection to a shooting during a private party at an elementary school in Edgard.
Based on investigation, detectives developed Dibartolo as a suspect in the shooting. A judicial warrant was issued, and Dibartolo turned himself in to the New Orleans Police Department Jan. 6. He was charged with illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities; firearm-free zone, notice, signs; and possession of a firearm/carrying a concealed weapon by convicted felon (felony). He is being held in custody in lieu of a $300,000 bond.
In addition, on Dec. 23, 2019 Marcus Isom, 34, of Edgard was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated second degree battery and illegal use of weapon in connection to this incident. He was released Dec. 24, 2019.
On Dec. 21, 2019, around 11:30 p.m., deputies responded to West St. John Elementary on River Road in reference to a shooting with multiple victims. Upon arrival, officers learned four people were shot. All victims were transported to a local hospital. They were treated and released. Officers also discovered five vehicles had been struck by multiple bullets.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said several people witnessed the shooting, but no one has come forward with information about the incident. No motive is known at this time.
