Two men arrested on gun and drug charges

LAPLACE – Tevin Kevon Bornes, 24, of Reserve and Tanner J. Edmonson, 20, of Metairie were arrested in connection to illegal gun possession and illegal drug activity in St. John the Baptist Parish.
Detectives with the St John Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team were conducting pro-active patrol in LaPlace on at about 12:30 p.m. August 2 when they observed a white 2018 Honda Civic traveling too closely to other vehicles on Belle Pointe Boulevard and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver, later identified as Edmonson, stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Coles Landing and South River Pointe Drive. As officers approached the vehicle, they observed Edmonson swallow an unknown item while the front seat passenger, later identified as Tevin Bornes, removed an unknown object from his pants and placed it on the back floorboard.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, officers also smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and observed small pieces of marijuana on the floorboard. The subjects were then detained. Edmonson admitted to swallowing marijuana, and Bornes admitted that he placed a bag of marijuana on the backseat floorboard. During a search of the vehicle, officers located three Oxycodone and .5 amphetamine tablets, a box containing about 103 Ecstasy tablets, 237 amphetamine tablets and about four grams of crack cocaine.
Officers also found a Glock 40 caliber handgun reported stolen by the Kenner Police Department, a plastic bag containing about a gram of marijuana, another plastic bag containing about eight grams of marijuana and a cylinder containing about a gram of marijuana.
Bornes, a convicted felon, was charged with two gun charges: illegal possession of a stolen firearm and illegal carrying of weapon with a controlled dangerous substance. He was also charged with felony counts of possession with intent to distribute amphetamine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and possession with intent to distribute MDMA. He is being held in custody in lieu of $95,000 bond.
Likewise, Edmonson was charged with illegal possession of stolen firearm and illegal carrying of weapon with a controlled dangerous substance. He was also charged with felony counts of possession with intent to distribute amphetamine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute MDMA and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He also faces additional charges for possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia first offense, a misdemeanor, as well as possession of oxycodone, obstruction of justice, tampering with evidence, a felony, and following of vehicles. He is being held in custody in lieu of a $116,750 bond.
