NAPOLEONVILLE — Former Senator Troy Brown proudly announces his intent to seek re-election to the State Senate District 2 seat. After serving the eight parish District for six years, many supporters throughout the district have motivated Brown to consider running for the office again.   

“After much prayer and consult with family and close advisers, the decision to run is now final,” Brown said. Brown achieved many successes while serving in the state Senate prior to his voluntary resignation in 2016: various road and bridge projects like Tiger Drive Bridge, the Sunshine Bridge refurbishing, and Capital Outlay funding for the

various Parishes, Cities and Municipalities. Serving as a Legislative advocate to the many chemical plants and private businesses in the Senate District was also a passion of Former Senator Brown, along with passing lots of legislation to enhance various aspects of our state as a whole.

  Today Brown continues to operate as an avid entrepreneur throughout the Bayou Region and River Parishes.

   Brown owns and operates one of the largest home healthcare firms in south Louisiana, servicing well over 150 elderly and disabled individuals, and employing well over 300 direct care workers from five office locations in South Louisiana, including Napoleonville, and Thibodaux, and Donaldsonville.

  Brown plans to continue advocating for the needs and services that are vital to the needs of the District 2 area:

** Promote and require more Local Hiring in the Chemical Industry

** Assure Adequate Funding for all Elderly Services

** Continue to Improve Infrastructure to accommodate new growth

** Continue to work with Plans and Strategies to Build New Mississippi River Bridge

  Brown intends to encourage strategies to promote local hiring throughout the District which encompasses what is known as “the chemical plant corridor”.

  The many River Parishes from St. James to St. John the Baptist, and from Ascension and Iberville to West BR, are all enjoying enormous industry growth, yet providing minimal long term direct hire employment for those living nearby.

“Our people suffer from the many negative effects of these industries, so industry could at least provide a more reasonable amount of direct hiring opposed to our locals having to resort to working as contract workers,” Brown said. “Contract work is short term, provides no retirement at all, and most times offer no health insurance. This amounts to a mere job and not a career with any long term benefits. Local tax dollars have been used to bring these new industries and expand existing business, yet only a few locals are being hired, this must change.”

  Brown intends to also address a long ignored issue in the Bayou Region area of Senate District 2; The upper Lafourche area of Thibodaux, Assumption parish, and Donaldsonville in Ascension Parish, have been long underserved due to the long ago closure of the shipbuilding mogul McDormott.  He plans to work with the Louisiana Department of Economic Development to bring back a viable industry to this region again.

   “McDormott was once the financial back bone of these areas,” Brown said. “It provided jobs and opportunity to so many of our citizens back then. Since it shut down nothing has filled in for the huge economic loss that we still endure today. My goal is to change this in order to bring job opportunities back to the area. We can thrive again like years ago if adequate jobs are provided again.
