Edgard – Shortly before 6:00 a.m. this morning, Troopers with Troop C were notified of a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 3127 just east of LA 640. The crash took the life of Lonnie Doucet, 44, of Lafayette and Mindi Becnel, 38, of Boutte.
The preliminary investigation revealed Doucet was traveling west on LA 3127 in a 2007 Honda CRV. Becnel was traveling east on LA 3127 in a 2007 Kia Optima. For unknown reasons, Doucet crossed the center line and struck Becnel’s vehicle. Both drivers were properly restrained but suffered fatal injuries. They were pronounced deceased on scene by the St. John the Baptist Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown as a factor in the crash and standard toxicology tests are pending from both drivers. This crash remains under investigation, and there is no further information at this time.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, and follow all traffic laws. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
