KENNER — A special recognition for the growing LaPlace post was part of the American Legion State Convention held June 6-8 in Kenner.

American Legion Commander Jim Jackson, last year’s department commander, turned over command to the new Louisiana Department Commander, Billy Ray Foley.

Included in Foley’s convention address were his expectations of team work and increased membership through education and contact of veterans throughout the state.

Among awards given at the convention was a Membership Award presented to LaPlace Post 383 Commander Dave Gatt.

Over the past five years, Gatt raised post membership from 64 to over 300 and growing.
