EDGARD — West St. John High School has been named a 2019 College Success Award Winner by GreatSchools.org.
Only 1,713 public high schools, or about 20 percent of total eligible schools across 25 states, won the award this year for ensuring that students are prepared for college, enroll in college and succeed once they get there.
“It is an honor for West St. John High School to receive yet another distinction for preparing our students for success,” Principal Claude Hill said.
“Our mission is for 100 percent of our student body to be admitted into college and/or prepared for a technical career. Our faculty and students buy into the belief of these words and keep them at the forefront of teaching and learning every day.”
The College Success Award-winning high schools stand out based on school-level college readiness and postsecondary data collected and shared by their states.
The data details whether students enroll in college, are ready for college-level coursework and persist on to their second year.
Winners represent about 20 percent of eligible public high schools.
“Our students know that there are no excuses for not giving their all when they walk through the doors each morning,” Hill said.
“The instruction and skills learned at West St. John High build and enhance our students’ academics, social skills, athletics and intellect. They are reminded daily of our mission and vision.”
