Vacherie man sentenced to 10 years after shooting

CONVENT — A Vacherie man was sentenced to 10 years in jail for his role in a shooting at a St. James Parish business, prosecutors said.
Emile Gros, 58, pleaded guilty last week to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
Judge Thomas Kliebert presided over the matter.
Gros was arrested Sept. 16 after St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to shots fired at a Vacherie business.
Deputies observed a male standing next to a parked car at the rear of the business holding a handgun.
As deputies approached, the gunman attempted to flee. While running, he threw the gun into a ditch.
After a brief foot pursuit, deputies apprehended the gunman, who they identified as Gros.
Prosecutors said deputies located the handgun along the path Gros took during his run, and Gros was booked into the St. James Parish Detention Center.
According to prosecutors, Gros has multiple prior felony convictions for drug related charges.
