LAPLACE — Another week meant another arrest for a LaPlace man linked to the rape of a child and child pornography.

Leroy Vicknair, 50, was arrested and booked Tuesday with 62 counts of possession of child pornography. According to online jail records, Vicknair posted a bond-no 10 percent of $310,000 and was released Thursday.

St. John Sheriff Mike Tregre said police discovered pictures in the suspect’s possession, leading to this week’s arrest.

Tregre said the investigative process prohibited from saying if authorities believe local children are pictured in the seized photographs.

“I’m not giving this guy any reason to use what I say as a technicality,” Tregre told L’OBSERVATEUR. “We have a good case on him. I think he is going to be convicted. I think he is going to be facing many years in prison.”

According to the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, investigation led to a search warrant, which led to detectives recovering more than 60 images of child pornography in Vicknair’s possession.

Tregre stressed that anyone in the community who believes Vicknair may have been involved in criminal activity to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

Vicknair made local headlines April 11, when he was arrested for first degree rape of a juvenile.

Last week, juvenile detectives received a complaint that Vicknair had inappropriate sexual contact with a juvenile on several occasions.

The Sheriff’s Office said little information would be released about the rape investigation since the case involves an alleged juvenile victim.

Following his initial arrest, Vicknair posted a $125,000 bond the next day and was released from jail.
