NEW ORLEANS — Girl Scouts from St. Charles and St. John parishes showed their interest in community service and making a difference in their community by earning the Girl Scout’s highest award for their Girl Scout level.

Girl Scout Juniors in grades fourth and fifth are eligible to earn the Girl Scout Bronze Award, and Girl Scout Cadettes in grades sixth through eighth can earn the Girl Scout Silver Award.

Each award requires the completion of a series of leadership challenges that are appropriate to each Girl Scout level and prepares them for their final take action project.

Girl Scout Bronze Award

Luling Girl Scout Junior Troop 20019 wanted to inform their community about the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Besides participating in community cleanups the girls shared with Girl Scout Daisies how to recycle and reuse items, as well as researching and then creating informative posters they placed in schools in their community.

They are Lauren Errington, Kennedy Ertel, Laila Harding and Giavanna Raby. Project advisor was Gina Raby.

Girl Scout Silver Award

Girl Scout Cadette Troop 20588 in Destrehan decided to clean up and beautify their local community through a variety of projects including plantings, trash pick-up at a park and repainting a large-scale USA map in a local school playground.

They are Brianna Anderson, Faith Bolden, Emily Madere, Alexis Robertson, Hannah Robin, Jessie Mae Sandolph and Josie Taylor.

Project advisor was Hollie Pfister.

Bench built for church

Rebekah Travis in Des Allemands Girl Scout Cadette Troop 20554 wanted to give back to the church where her troop meets. She decided to build a wooden bench to give St. Gertrude Catholic Church members a place to rest while waiting for church to start.

Project advisor was Denise Matherne.
