Three Reserve motorists were the targets of a mid-drive fatal shooting that has St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives asking for the public’s help to bring the shooter or shooters to justice.
Police believe Lester Borne Jr., 26, was driving a 2006 Chrysler Sebring with two other Reserve residents at 3:23 a.m. Sunday westbound on the Bonnet Carre
Spillway when they were the victims of gunfire.
The Sebring has what appears to be a white or light colored recent paint transfer on the body, police said, which could have been caused by a vehicle striking the Sebring during the shooting or recently before the shooting.
The Sebring crashed into the southside wall of the bridge following the shooting, and first responders discovered Borne deceased inside of the vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds.
An autopsy is scheduled today.
The Sebring’s two other passengers were located walking on Interstate 10.
One passenger, a 24-year-old male, suffered a gunshot wound to his left foot.
The second passenger, a 26-year-old male, suffered minor injuries believed to be associated with the vehicle crash.
Both men were taken to a New Orleans-area hospital, where they were treated for their injuries and released Sunday.
The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for anyone that may have witnessed the crash or anyone who was traveling on Interstate 10 westbound, near the incident location around 3:23 a.m., to contact detective Jenni Barrette at 985-783-1135 or 985-783-6807.
