LAPLACE — The St. John the Baptist Parish Shop Local campaign recently ended with the close of the holiday season, but residents are encouraged to continue supporting local merchants throughout the year, which ultimately support the parish. 

Residents who correctly completed their Shop Local trivia cards were entered in a drawing to win prizes from local retailers.

To claim their prizes, winners should bring proper identification to the receptionist desk located in the new Government Complex, at 1811 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace and ask for the Economic Development Department.

Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The goal of the campaign was to foster a greater sense of awareness of local businesses and to encourage shoppers to buy from local businesses especially during the holiday season.

“I would like to thank each person who participated in our contest and congratulate our winners on knowing our businesses,” Parish President Natalie Robottom said.

Businesses are encouraged to register as a Shop Local business at stjohneconomicdevelopment.com.

There is no cost for membership.
