LAPLACE — An altercation that spilled over into an Airline Highway shooting has led to one arrest and more questions.
The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office first announced Dec. 18 that a 28-year-old man traveling westbound on Airline Highway was cut off two nights before by an orange Dodge Challenger.
Police said the Challenger’s occupants began a verbal altercation with the victim before a passenger in the Challenger exited the vehicle, walked to the rear of the complainant’s vehicle and fired multiple shots into the vehicle before fleeing in the Challenger.
The Sheriff’s Office communications team asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact the TIPS line or Criminal Investigations Division.
On Friday, the Sheriff’s Office said 30-year-old Kelvin Timothy Taylor was arrested the week before in relation to the shooting.
Police say it was Taylor, of LaPlace, who exited the Challenger and fired at the victim, striking his vehicle multiple times.
The victim was not injured, according to police.
Taylor is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal use of weapons and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held in lieu of a $47,500 bond.
When asked what town does the victim live in, if a motive for the shooting has been determined or if any other suspects are being sought, including the driver of the Challenger, a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said Criminal Investigations is not releasing victim or other suspect information, pending further investigation.
