EDGARD — Head coach Tahajenik Melancon’s only goal for the rest of the West St. John volleyball season is to see more coverage on the court and make a run through District.

The Lady Rams are otherwise having a strong season, according to Melancon, who said the team communicates well under the pressure and learns from each mistake.

The season record stands at 7-10 following Monday’s victory against Crescent City, in which the Lady Rams took control of three out of four sets.

The Rams previously dominated Crescent City in September, which Melancon said stands out as the best game of the season.

“Their aggressiveness stood out and made that game real good,” Melancon said. “Anything on the net was killed. This team is strong. Once they see what their mistakes are, they pick it up, and in the second game they become a whole different team.”

The Lady Rams are mostly the same as last year, including only three seniors. Melancon said this consistency gives the team a chance to grow together.

Of the seniors, outside hitter Amiya Lumar has emerged as a team leader.

“She’s been communicating with the other plays, talking to them and lifting them up,” Melancon said. “She encourages them when she sees they’re down.”

The Lady Rams play a 4:30 p.m. home game Thursday against East Iberville.
