RESERVE — The Wildcats (2-2) have a tremendous opportunity in front of them — start 2-0 in District 7-5A by winning both games on the road.
After defeating previously unbeaten Central Lafourche last week, East St. John High returns to the road Thursday to challenge H. L. Bourgeois High in Terrebonne Parish.
The Braves are 1-3 and happy to be playing at home following a 30-6 road defeat at Thibodaux on Sept. 21.
The Braves boast a potent kicking game, paced by place kicker Rodney Bouvier, who connected from 44 and 30 yards out last week.
H. L. Bourgeois moves the ball best through the ground game, led by the talented duo of D’Keyvion Sanders and William Babin, who produced 57 yards and 72 yards, respectively, last week.
For East St. John coaches and players, this week should be less about their opponents and more about themselves.
The Wildcats are coming off a 31-0 shutout of Central Lafourche, a game that saw the defense shine and the offense produce scores via the passing and rushing games.
Quarterback Sean Shelby and playmakers Pershing Toney, Calvin Gardner Jr. and Jeremy Wells continue to give defenses fits.
ESJH was pretty pumped when these two squads met last year, the Wildcats walked away with a dominating 34–13 victory.
Then quarterback Duke Crosby finished 13 of 20 for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also ran 17 times for 134 yards and a score.
