EDGARD — Kylan Duhe and Niko Roy combined to rush for more than 300 yards, leading West St. John (2-1) to a 40-20 win over the Bonnabel Bruins Friday in Edgard.

“The offensive live did a great job opening up some holes for them,” Rams coach Brandon Walters said. “It was much needed. We have to be able to defend home and the guys did a great job doing that tonight.”

According to Walters, a clearly improving Bonnabel squad presented an athletic challenge that matched well their schemes.

“I’m glad our guys were able to step up to the challenge,” Walters said, noting a slow start disappointed him. “They beat a good team tonight. We just have to execute more. Our guys didn’t come out fighting the way they normally do or the way I would like them to.”

St. Charles Catholic

LAPLACE — SCC scored early and late, playing dominant defense the whole time, in securing a 21-6 Friday night home victory over the Wilkinson County High School Wildcats.

Wilkinson County, of Mississippi, entered the game at 3-0 but had to return to their home state with a defeat.

St. Charles Catholic (2-1) got on the scoreboard early when Sutton Bourgeois connected with Logan Forsythe for a 12-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter.

It took the Comets more than 30 minutes of game time before they scored again, pushing across two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter — Trey Lowry’s 10-yard scamper sealing things with less than six minutes remaining on the clock.

The only points St. Catholic gave up were via an interception returned for a touchdown in the second quarter, making Week 3 the second time this season SCC’s defense held an opponent to single digits or less.

Comets senior Joseph Chiarella also contributed a rushing touchdown.

East St. John

RESERVE — A packed house seemingly spent most of the day and evening at Joe Keller Memorial Stadium, as thousands packed the Airline Highway venue hours before kickoff to show their support for East St. John High.

The Wildcats (1-2) did not disappoint with their effort, but ultimately lost 16-14 to McDonogh 35.

The Roneagles (2-1) entered the contest riding high following a 23-0 shutout of L.W. Higgins in Marrero, but found things a lot tougher in St. John the Baptist Parish thanks a rejuvenated ESJH program under new head coach Brandon Brown.
