6 charged in connection with November Reserve murder

LAPLACE – Six subjects have been booked with charges stemming from the November murder of a Reserve man.

On Jan. 13 St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Lionel Labranche, 23, of Houma Drive in LaPlace for the murder of Cardell Cosey of Reserve.

Cosey was murdered on East 13th Street in Reserve on Nov. 17. Physical evidence collected during the investigation led detectives to suspect Labranche as being responsible for the murder.

On Monday, a grand jury handed down a true bill of indictment for Labranche for the murder of Cosey. Labranche was arrested later that day.

Labranche was booked with second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, illegal possession of a stolen firearm and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His bond was set at $450,150, and he remains in custody.

Labranche has been arrested 30 times in St. John Parish since October 2007.

Four additional subjects were arrested and booked on charges in connection to the murder of Cosey.

Samuel Covington III, 20, of Taffy Street in Kenner was arrested on Tuesday and booked with principal to second-degree murder. His bond has not been set. Covington had no prior arrests in St. John Parish.

Jerry Weber, 21, of Camelia Avenue in LaPlace was arrested Dec. 18 and booked with principal to obstruction of justice. He was released on bond.

Weber has been arrested seven times in St. John Parish since September 2010.

Demario Gray, 27, of East 14th Street in in Reserve was arrested on Dec. 24. He was booked with obstruction of justice-simple assault. His bond was set at $12,000. He bonded out of jail on a commercial bond.

Gray has been arrested 14 times in St. John Parish since December 2003.

Kenyatta D. Miller, 26, North Sugar

Ridge Drive, LaPlace, was arrested on Jan. 15 andbooked with attempted obstruction of justice and an attachment.

Miller has been arrested 24 times in St. John Parish since November 2007.

There is one other subject who will be booked with additional charges related to the crime.

Terrell Noel, 25, of Reserve was arrested on Nov. 27 on unrelated outstanding warrants and remains in custody. He will be booked with obstruction of justice and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Noel has been arrested 28 times in St. John Parish since May 2006.
