LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish residents are invited to explore career opportunities with Baumer Foods Inc., a food production plant at 573 W. 10th St. in Reserve.
Baumer Foods representatives will be on hand to answer questions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday during a job fair at the St. John Business & Career Solutions Center in LaPlace, 421 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace.
Recruitment and placement services specialist Karen Harris said Baumer Foods contacted Louisiana Workforce last week, eager to hire a night shift supervisor and day shift production line operators.
According to a recent job posting, the night shift supervisor manages full operations of a shift schedule, including start-ups, shutdowns and takeovers while balancing goal setting and productivity.
Harris said Baumer Foods is requesting five years of experience in manufacturing plant operations and a high school diploma.
Production line operators load and feed packaging materials and supplies into machines and provide sanitary assessment of assigned areas.
Baumer Foods also has night shift job openings in Reserve for a maintenance mechanic, a preparation department employee and a process sanitation technician, according to St. John Business & Career Solutions Center program case manager Neron North-Green.
Maintenance mechanics order, install and repair equipment to promote seamless operations. Applicants must have mechanical, electrical and troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyze and report on machine performance.
Preparation department employees must be able to follow a batch formula to properly scale ingredients and operate manual machines in the production of high quality food products.
Process sanitation technicians operate power-cleaning equipment to rinse and sanitize food product lines.
Applicants should have experience in food manufacturing operations and be familiar with Good Manufacturing Practice and Safe Quality Food requirements. A high school diploma is required, but an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Applications are available at baumerfoods.com/careers. Completed applications should be sent by email to hr@baumerfoods.com or by fax to 504-483-1448.
Harris said Wednesday’s job fair is open to anyone, adding interested individuals should apply online before attending.
Baumer Foods human resources director Heidi Fukjo said applicants must pass a drug test because the facility is strictly drug-free, alcohol-free and smoke-free.
Fukjo advises those who attend the job fair to come in professional attire, “dressed for the interview, not for the job.”
According to Fukjo, Baumer Foods employees have an opportunity to earn pay increases through the Earn to Learn Program, which rewards employees who master operating machinery.
Harris asks those searching for a career register online with Louisiana Workforce.
“We’ll put resumes up for 90 days, and it helps us track numbers of people in need of job services,” Harris said.
Harris said the St. John office, located directly behind The Donut Hole in LaPlace, is always open to job-seeking individuals and businesses looking to coordinate recruiting events.
