Keller: Don’t let fear sidetrack you from great things

The Bible says that without a vision, the people perish. I believe that we are all created to do great things for God.

If that’s so, why do so many people live a life that resembles a ship without a rudder? They just drift through life waiting to see what happens and never make anything happen. They tiptoe through life seeking a safe and secure death.

I’m reminded of what Cardinal J. H. Newman said: “Fear not that life shall come to an end, but that it shall never have a beginning.”

Fear is the enemy that keeps people from stepping out in faith and deprives them of a victorious life.

They choose to just exist and not live. Studies show that 95 percent of what people fear is baseless. As Christians, the reason our visions don’t materialize is best described in “Broken Dream,” written by an unknown author:

BROKEN DREAMS

As children bring their broken toys

With tears for us to mend,

I brought my broken dreams to God

Because He was my Friend.

But then instead of leaving Him

In peace to work alone,

I hung around and tried to help

With ways that were my own.

At last I snatched them back and cried,

“How can You be so slow?”

My child,” He said, “What could I do?

You never did let go.”

When it’s a dream from God, we should let go, let God direct us, and step aside.
