LAPLACE — One man has been arrested for the targeted killing of a LaPlace motorist and more are coming, St. John Sheriff Mike Tregre said.

DeQuan Donnell Brown, 23, of Reserve turned himself in Wednesday following the shooting death of 25-year-old Corey Lyntrell Anderson of Reserve.

“There is more,” Tregre said. “We’re working it, and more arrests are coming.”

At approximately 3 a.m. Sunday, St. John Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 1300 block of Yorktowne Drive in reference to an aggravated battery by shooting.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a male, later identified as Anderson, in a yard near the street with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Crime cameras and other investigative resources linked Brown to the scene, Tregre said, adding there were no witnesses, “but our crime cameras never sleep.”

Police have not released a motive for the shooting.

Brown was booked with second degree murder and transferred to the St. Charles Parish Correctional Center. He is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

“He has enemies in our jail and family of the deceased in jail,” Tregre said. “You try to avoid these confrontations, which become verbal and then physical and we have to go in there, stop it and we get hurt. He has been classified as a person who cannot stay in our facility due to potential conflicts.”

Police said Brown’s prior arrests include charges of second degree murder and robbery with a firearm.

Anyone with information regarding the killing is encouraged to call the St. John Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

Those who call Crimestoppers do not have to testify and may qualify for a cash reward. Tips can also be submitted at stjohnsheriff.org/submitatip.php.
