Motorist dies following three-vehicle crash in St. John the Baptist Parish

LAPLACE — A three-vehicle crash on Airline Highway that snarled traffic Friday afternoon in St. John the Baptist Parish turned tragic this morning when, according to police, one of the wreck’s victims succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at a New Orleans hospital.
Louisiana State Police Senior Trooper Melissa Matey said 27-year-old Mayra A. Dominguez of Kenner died today at University Medical Center.
Authorities believe Dominguez was driving a Chevrolet Malibu shortly after 3 p.m. north on Airline Highway in the right lane and, for unknown reasons, drove over a small raised median and crossed into the southbound lanes ofAirline Highway.
The Malibu entered into the path of a Chevrolet Impala, driven by 22-year-old Jeremiah Young of Vacherie, which was traveling south in the left lane.
The crash took place on Airline Highway near Windsor Street, east of LaPlace.
The Malibu was then struck by a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 57-year-old Tommy Lajaunie of Houma, that was traveling south in the right lane.
Young and Lajaunie were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
At this time, Matey said it is unknown if speed or impairment are factors. Seat belt usage is also unknown.
The crash remains under investigation.
