Yvonne’s Directions In Dance shines during competition season

LUTCHER — The 42-member dance company of Yvonne’s Directions In Dance had a spectacular year Swingin’ Through their competition season.
These dancers ages 6-14 performed at local community events helping to raise money for the St. James Parish Lions Club, Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the Festival of the Bonfires.
Dancers competed in regional competitions in Metairie, Baton Rouge and Biloxi, Miss., winning overall highest scoring numbers, divisional awards, choreography, special judges awards, studio professionalism award, Star Dance Alliance regional champions and golden ticket invites to the World Dance Championships in New Jersey. Individually the dancers were awarded overall highest scores for their solos, costume and photogenic awards, Power Pak scholarships and invites as well as convention scholarships to JUMP.
The mini movers showcased their talents at the St. James Parish Pumpkin Patch, Festival of the Bonfires, Starpower International Talent Competition and Imagine Dance Challenge.
The jazz routine “Stupid Cupid” received high star rankings, first place divisional awards, fourth overall and third overall highest scoring 8 & under routine and special judges award. Mini Mover soloists received 1st place division awards, overall high scores, special awards and costume awards at all 4 competitions they attended.
The Mini Mover Dance program is a preparatory division of the Dance Company designed for young dancers in Pre-K 4 and Kindergarten.
The dancers are excited to be showcasing all of their numbers at their annual dance recital held on May 6 at the Warren Harang Jr. Municipal auditorium in Thibodaux. The dance company will be traveling to Pensacola, Fla., this summer to compete at Revolution Talent’s National Championships.
