Two teenagers were arrested on Wednesday following a robbery and assault on two teenagers in Laplace, according to St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The male suspects are accused of beating a 12-year-old boy and stealing his bike and that of his 15-year-old friend.

The mother of the 12-year-old victim contacted the Sheriff’s Office around 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The victims, riding a black and red BMX and a black Huffy mountain bike, reported being approached by four suspects at the Carrollwood and Dominican Drive intersection in LaPlace.

The 14-year-old victim told deputies that they stopped after one of the four suspects called his name. The victim approached the group, and a physical altercation began when they attempted to take the “sheisty” football mask he was wearing.

When the group failed to take the mask, he claimed that he was tackled to the ground and punched several times by the 12-year-old and 13-year-old suspects. The group then left with the stolen mask bikes.

Sheriff’s investigators identified the 12- and 13-year-old suspects during the investigation. Additional arrests are expected.

Sheriff Mike Tregre said he is reviewing the parish’s juvenile curfew law and considering creating a special patrol team to curb potential violations.

“Summer break is fast approaching, and if this incident is any indication, we may need to intensify our curfew enforcement to curb potential violations,” Sheriff Tregre said. “So parents, you better know where your kids are.”
