It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father, Ferrel J. Bailey, “The Shrimp Man”, on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the age of 82. He was a respected father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ferrel was a tough, hard-working, ”old-school” man. He had a strong work ethic that began as a young boy learning to farm. That work ethic continued through his many years as a local barber, then he took up carpentry, and then to his true passion, providing the public with outstanding and quality shrimp. He served as the “Shrimp Man” for 30 years on Airline Hwy. in Laplace, until his retirement in May 2021. Since his retirement, Ferrel has spent his time back on the farm with his good friend and “student”, Todd Duhe. Together they planted and harvested vegetables year round, but more importantly, created a bond like no other. Ferrel was proud to pass on his knowledge and experiences of farming, onto the next generation.
Ferrel is survived by his former spouse, Cheryl Cashio. Together they raised 3 sons, Scott (Vicki), Rick (Stacey), and Kerry (Jill). He was the son of the late Victorine and Albert Bailey. Brother of the late Joseph (Albert), (Karen), Ernest (Buddy),(June), Harold (Roberta), Ida Mae (Sidney) Vice. He was a grandfather of seven wonderful grandchildren, Christian and Brooke Bailey, Kristen Vicknair (Justin), Katie Whitcomb (Michael), Noah Bailey, Kameron Bailey, Payton Bailey (Lindsey). Also great-grandfather to Raelynn and Westin Vicknair, Hudson and Hallie Whitcomb, and Beckham Bailey. Known to his numerous nieces and nephews as Uncle Butsy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1550 LA-44, Reserve, La. Visitation will be at the Church from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the Funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery.
