St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office warns public of phone tax scam

- Residents need to be alert, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre warns, after a victim recently fell prey to telephone scam artists posing as employees of the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office warns residents about a telephone scam in which callers impersonate the department and demand tax payments.
The Sheriff’s Office says the scammers are using the name DTAM Services, LLC, and have been calling from (985) 236-1009. Officials urge residents not to provide any personal information or make payments to these callers.
“The Sheriff’s Office will never contact the public through unsolicited phone calls demanding money,” the department said in a statement.
Anyone who has received one of these calls or fallen victim to the scam is encouraged to file a report with Detective Lt.Mike Shard of the Criminal Investigations Division at (504) 494-2782
